Murray and Murray - 1st Place by MacDoninri Murray and Murray - 1st Place by MacDoninri
ill just have to keep drawing, and get more money, and eventually ill be able to go home. yep. thats the plan.

win contest. pay tuition. win contest pay tuition. graduate

Thousand Dollar Drawing

The Murray & Murray Contest: The Director's Project
this is my entry for the annual contest in my university.
im in first year - Architecture.
i won the contest :) yay
"if i dont win this, i wont have enough to pay for next term. gaahh. gotta draw"

Background story:
this annual contest has been running for 40 years.
and no first year student has won it. ever. until THIS year. :)
and i am darn proud of myself. (hey, its not bad to be proud of yourself, right? :)

it's mandatory. so everyone joins.
100+ first years
maybe 80 second years
maybe 60 third years
maybe 50 fourth years
and maybe 30 more people doing their master's degree

im so scared of not winning cause my rendering was crap compared to the top picks.
but im only confident about my content. :)

i had 4 days to do this,
and 3 of those 4 days, i had to go to Work (grocery part timer) then draw at night

i won, and i got a thousand dollars.
all went to my tuition fund. haha.
best thing is, people know me now. at least.
felt surreal when im holding the prize envelope.
never had that much in my hand ever. its a crazy amount. and even crazier if i spend it back in the philippines. but no. i have to spend it wisely :)
bad thing is, glory stops there
all my drawings assignments got zeros.
(gah. i hate pencil. i wanna do ink)

"yay! 2 day popularity!"

Rules:
This year's rules -
Design a Dream-Space within the Campus
Draw on a 2x3 feet paper.
Use Only Pencil

My Design:
The Carleton Beacon
an unfinished, building-gate-bridge to be put on the riverside on campus.
it's high. has a flame. and darn detailed

its basically my Gothic-Industrial [link] drawing morphed into a structure. instead of a landscape

hmm. 5 more contests and i can buy a gibson les paul.
:) i wish i win next year again.

"whew. :) i love how this year started"

Ok... I get most of it. Or I can read most of it I should say lol. I have only one question on it. What's up with the bottom right hand banana? Of course that would be the first thing I noticed in all of this ^.^

the banana is like the concept. the "OLD" is the skin/peel, and out sprouts the "NEW" - the banana edible part.
evolving / aging architecture concept thingy. :D

I meant it looks a bit like it's depicting a mysterious place, like maps in many adventure movies. Eh, just too much TV for me I guess. :)

It looks pretty amazing, given that it has the look and feel of an actual design. People would come just to chill by this thing if only it would get built. I miss the intricate beauty of the gothic architectures.

yeah. gothic design has waaay too many haters. i dunno why

Well yeah, it's a public works kind of thing. Civil architecture used to be the pride of great cities the world over, ah well. I don't know why either, it takes a lot of skill to design and build something beautiful and ornate like that. You can't bitch that everything looks the same in one sentence and refuse to pay for something nicer the next.

this is hell good! nice philosophy! "a space to dream" XD i'm very sure you'll get a lot of reputation in your university.

The style was futuristic and fantasy yet, it uses green energy, it's pretty hard to design specially when "uninspired days" come. in a beacon, i think with much of considerations you proposed, that was good. in those 4 days with some job to do, i'm so impressed to you.

congrats sir! you have brought fantasy in today's contemporary designs, you have created something "new". well done! keep it up!^^,

good thing is that the profs know me. they used to joke about just giving me an A+.
but jokes are jokes. i have to do real work now. i suck at drawing in pencil

yea. fantasy. people always guess i play a LOT pof videogames when they see this. haha
yep. all these considerations where in the instructions. a location was required. but, i guess out of 500, im the only one who put them. so, there. :)
